Tribute & Message From The Family
Richard Leon Murphy, age 74, of Baytown, passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2014. He was born on August 9, 1939 in Paris, TX, to Coleman and Wilma Long Murphy. Mr. Murphy was a longtime employee of Solvay Chemical, and retired after 35 years. He was also an active and faithful member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Diann Murphy; 4 children, Lisa, Daniel Murphy, Marie Bishop, and Nancy Grimes; step-children, Jay Carey, and M'Lissa Johnson and husband Rick; step-grandchildren, Jaymie Carey, Emily Johnson, and Sammy Johnson; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Coleman and Wilma Murphy. The family will receive friends at Crespo and Jirrels Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 6, starting at 2 pm, with the funeral service to start at 3 pm with Bro. Paul Cleveland officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarcrest Cemetery.

I was so sad to hear of Leon passing. He did much to prepare the next generation - myself included to work in our industry.

Diann, I am so saddened to here of Leon passing. I have so many fond memories of him and you over the years. Know in your heart that he is in heaven and rejoicing. I love you lady and think of you often. You and your family will be in my prayers.

So sorry to hear of Leon's passing. I enjoyed the time I worked with him at the plant, he always made me smile. Even when we butted heads. Sending prayers to you all, he will be dearly missed.

My heart is heavy to read about the death of Leon. He was my friend and co worker. I am praying for the family but remember he fought the good fight and I know he loved his family. God bless and comfort you in these trying times.

Family, I was saddened to hear about the death of Leon. We were high school classmates and I really did like him. We went on to Lee College and were buddies there. I am praying for God to comfort all of you at this time.

Mr. Leon was my best friend. I really like to see him at church I know he is in Heaven with my great grandpa Winemiller. I am going to miss you Mr. Leon.
