Dorthy Magret Wehring Knappick, age 81, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Monday, February 10, 2014. Dorthy was born on August 31, 1932 in Rosenberg, TX. She was the fourth child of the late Fritz and Frieda Wehring of Highlands. Dorthy grew up in the Highlands/Baytown area and attended Robert E. Lee High School and Lee College in Baytown.
Dorthy was a very loving mother and will be truly missed. She was blessed with five children, Karen, Robert, Darlene, Tim, and Stacie; she enjoyed spending time with them and their families. In her earlier years Dorthy enjoyed writing stories and poetry, photography, plants, crafts and volunteering in the Highlands Elementary PTA. She also, enjoyed devoting some of her spare time to nursing homes in the area. Dorthy was involved in a couple of senior groups in Highlands, the Red Hatters and Highlands High Fliers where she served as President for 2 years. Additionally, she worked at several local places; Ezell's Pharmacy, Foley's and Astro-Tex A/C and Heating of Houston.
Dorthy was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Rudolph 'Bob' Knappick, and her siblings, Harry Wehring, Eric Wehring and Agnes Wehring Pennington and several in-laws. Also, she was preceded in her death by her first granddaughter Kristina McLean Ward.
Left to cherish her memory: Dorthy is survived by her eldest sister, Betty Nation of Houston. Additionally, Dorthy is survived her 5 loving children and their spouses; Sons - Robert and wife Deb Knappick of Houston, their 2 daughters: Kimberly and husband Chris Surawski and baby boy on the way and Tara and husband Sam Hickey and their 2 daughters: Addison and Ashlynn Hickey of Spring. Tim Knappick and Jan Daley of Baytown and his 3 daughters: Abbey, Ashley, Aimee Knappick of Lake Jackson. Dorthy had 3 daughters - Karen and husband Roger 'Johnny' McLean of Baytown and their grandson: Tyler Ward of League City, Darlene and husband Lui Vega, Jr. and their daughter: Sterling Vega of Round Rock. Stacie and husband Steve Conard and their son: Denver Knappick of Huffman. Dorthy is also survived by several in-laws. Along with, numerous nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 15, starting at 1 PM with the Funeral Service starting at 2 PM in the Chapel of Crespo and Jirrels with Pastor Nancy Simpson officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Crest Cemetery. You may post a tribute for the family at www.crespoandjirrels.com. Arrangements are entrusted to Crespo and Jirrels Funeral Home.
