Jewel A. Rice Steele, 92, was born on December 5, 1921, in Corrigan, Texas, to Joseph and Frances Holstein Rice. She passed away on Friday, January 17, 2014, in a Baytown hospital. Mrs. Steele retired from Sears in 1991 and was a long time member of the Assembly of God Church.
She is survived by her son, James Young and wife, Shirley, of Center Point, Texas; grandchildren, Jason Young of Mont Belvieu, Donya Young Beene and husband, Andy, of Kerrville, Texas, Russell Waller and wife, Robin, of Mont Belvieu, and Kyle Bunch and wife, Melissa, of Baytown; Eleven great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Opal Keene of Coldsprings, Texas, and Karen Rice of Baytown; niece, Kelli Rice of Baytown; special friend, Janice Swick; step-daughter, Beverly Steele; and numerous other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Steele; daughter, Leata Waller; and six brothers. The family would like to express their gratitude to Remington Park for their wonderful care of Mrs. Steele.
There will a visitation on Sunday, January 19, 2014, from 2-4 p.m. at Crespo & Jirrels Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 20, 2014, at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Crespo and Jirrels, with Mr. C.G. Swick officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarcrest Cemetery in Baytown.
