Rubin Edward Kappler, 94, passed away peacefully in his assisted living facility on Thursday, May 8, 2014 in Houston Texas. He was born January 29, 1920, in Bishop, Texas, to Pauline and John Theodore Kappler. He grew up in McAllen Texas, and after went on to graduate from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Engineering. In 1944, he was awarded an officer ranking in the U.S. Navy and during World War II; he served on the U.S.S. Randall. On December 10, 1944, he married Almarie Hoel. In 1946, he was employed by Humble Oil and Refining Company (which later becomes Exxon) and he retired in 1982 at the age of 62. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed yard work, and loved to play golf with family and friends. He and his wife were devoted Christians and members of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Baytown.

He is survived by his son, Gary Hoel Kappler and daughter in-law, Leslie Gose Kappler of Houston; his three beloved grandchildren Caroline Kappler and Cullen Bailey Kappler of Houston, and Corbin Grant Kappler, currently working with the Peace Corps in Peshkopi, Albana and numerous nieces and nephews.
In additions to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Almarie Hoel Kappler, daughter in-law and mother of his three grandchildren, Becky Bailey Kappler; Brother Eric A. Kappler; and sister, Edna Kappler Biar.
