Vada Ashwood Griffith, 82, of Baytown, died December 29, 2013, in a local health care facility. She was born on September 10, 1931, in Goose Creek, Texas, to her parents, W. F. and Josephine Ashwood. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Williams James Griffith; and two sisters, Sammie Swick and Hortense Collins.

Mrs. Griffith leaves to cherish her memory a sister, Avenette Swick; and her brother, Gordon Ashwood of Colorado Springs, Colorado. She also leaves nieces and nephews, Charles Donald and Yvonne Swick, of Richardson, Lillian McGary of Baytown, Dr. Joseph Leonard Collins of Norris, Tennessee, Jo Nita and J. L. Clayton of Cleveland, Tennessee, Charles Glen, Jr. and Janice Swick of Baytown, Barbara and Kent Pound of Colorado Springs, and Bill and Beverly Ashwood of The Colony, Texas; and a special great niece, Ashtyn Sattelmaeir, of Baytown. Mrs. Griffith has seventeen great nieces and nephews, twenty-eight great-great nieces and nephews and two great-great-great nieces.

Mrs. Griffith graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1949 and attended Lee College. Her career spanned thirty-five years as a federal employee at Ellington Air Force Base and NASA Johnson Space Center, where she was a payroll supervisor.

She started playing the piano and organ at church at a very early age and shared her musical talent at Trinity Tabernacle, Central Assembly of God and Greens Bayou Assembly of God.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2014, at Crespo & Jirrels Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 3, 2014, in the Chapel of Crespo & Jirrels. Burial will follow at Cedarcrest Cemetery.
