John Wayne Cole, 53, of Baytown, departed this life suddenly Friday, June 23, 2006, in a Pasadena hospital. Born in Houston, on August 23, 1952, he was one of nine children born to Joseph Vernon and Addie Mae (Tickell) Cole. He attended Robert E. Lee High School before joining the Air Force, and proudly served his country for over 20 years. Following his retirement from the Air Force in 1993, John lived in Alaska, for two years, serving as a volunteer firefighter and moved back to Baytown in 1995. He worked for nearly 10 years at the Parks Department for the city of La Porte, and was a member of Cedar Bayou Baptist Church. A constant prankster, he enjoyed ice fishing, online computing, and he was especially proud of his seven grandsons, Donovan, Ethan, Allen, Nick, Vincent, Brandon and Zachary.
Preceded in death by his parents, John is survived by his loving wife, Candy Cole of Baytown; four sons, John J. Cole of OR, Robert Cole and wife, Joyce of Salcha, AK, Cody Cole and James Cole both of Baytown; two daughters, Angela Strum and husband, Eric of Salcha, AK, and Rebecca Szahowski and husband, Andy of Newport News, VA; brother, Carl Cole and wife, Donna of La Porte; sisters, Betty Moore and husband, Gerald, of Crosby, Naomi Wright of Baytown, Verna Mae Crochet and husband, Rodney of Onalaska, TX, Sharon Edwards and husband, Jeff of Baytown, Carolyn Clevenger and husband, Rick of Clinton, MO, Brenda Becktold, and Sylvia Jones and husband, Wendell all of Baytown, and his seven grandsons.
His family will receive friends at Crespo & Jirrels Funeral Home, 6123 Garth Road, Tuesday, June 27, 2006, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10:45 a.m., Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at the chapel of Crespo & Jirrels, Dr. Mark Broussard officiating.
