Nelda Jean Skipper Burton Ramsey, 79, went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 10, 2012, after a long and valiant struggle with multiple myeloma. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church in Baytown for over sixty years and a frequent visitor at Lyons Baptist Church in Lyons, Texas, whenever she visited her sister. Nelda was proud of the fact that she was a retired operator from Phillips Petroleum Company in Pasadena and thoroughly enjoyed being a member of the Jane Phillips Society. She was also a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the VFW. Nelda graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown in 1950
She is preceded in death by her parents, Harvey Eugene and Velma Skipper; husband and father of her children; Robert Gale Burton; son, David A. Ramsey; grandson, James Clinton Savell III, Brandon E. Burton and William R. Burton; and sisters, Irene Littlefield and E. Gail Parish.
Nelda is survived by her children, Brenda Savell-Cridland and husband, Henry C. Cridland, of Clear Lake City, Henry Edward (Rocky) Burton, Bradley E. Burton and wife, Valerie, and William B. (Bill) Burton and wife, Margaret; beloved sister, Gwen Belote and husband, Kenneth, of Caldwell, Texas; siblings acquired by marriage and kept through love, Delores Daniels of Odessa, Texas, Lavon Mitchell, Judy and Mike Henicke, Nina Burton, Richard Burton and Gary Burton, all of Baytown. She also is survived by children adopted in her heart and treated as her own, Dawn J. Lloyd of Canton, Texas, Cyndi Levay of Cleveland, Tennessee, Marie Kilby and husband, Jeff, of Baytown, Ralph Jenkins, Erin Prien, David Berryman and Randall Miller, all of Baytown, along with their children and grandchildren.
Nelda is also survived by her grandchildren, Tiphaine Savell Justice and husband, Eric, of League City, Chasity R. Burton and Clay Jerry of San Marcos, Eric Burton and wife, April, of New Braunfels, Samantha Burton Herrin and husband, Michael, of Baytown, Michael Hayes of Baytown, Amber Davila and husband, Joel, of Moss Hill, Heidi Bozeman and husband, Ken, of Porter, Texas, Holly and Clint Ennis of Spring, Texas, Heather and Tracey Robinson of Cleveland, Tennessee, David and Gloria St. Clair of Cleveland, Tennessee, Mary Hatcher of Baytown and Marcie Ramsey of League City; great grandchildren, Garren, Parker and Mackenzie Justice of League City, Teighan and Brooklynn Herrin of Baytown, Abigail Burton of New Braunfels, Zeb Jarry of San Marcos, TJ, Cameron, Zachary and Abigail Davila of Moss Hill; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Bayview Home Health for the excellent care their mother received from their staff over the past eight years. In addition, they would also like to thank all of the phenomenal caregivers at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, especially Dr. Donna Weber and all of the myeloma support staff.
The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. on Monday, February 13, 2012, at Crespo & Jirrels Funeral Home. A Celebration of Nelda's Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 14, 2012, in the Chapel of Crespo and Jirrels, with Reverend Gary Samford officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Park.
